There are times when we know something needs to change, but the way forward remains unclear.
The Unstuck Walk offers the space to pause, listen and begin again. Across five days, the physical journey through the Three Capes landscape is woven together with a carefully guided psychological framework inspired by Emily Musgrove’s book, Unstuck.
Through walking, reflection, mindfulness and conversation, you will explore where you feel stuck, tune into the patterns and stories shaping your life, and identify a values-aligned path forward.
This is not about escaping everyday life. It is about returning to it with greater clarity, purpose and a meaningful next step.

Walk with Dr Em.
Emily Musgrove is a psychologist, author and the creator of Unstuck. Throughout the retreat, Dr Em will guide seven facilitated sessions that bring the principles of Unstuck into the lived experience of the walk.
The program combines grounded psychological frameworks with mindfulness practices, guided journaling, silent walking meditations and intimate group conversations. Each element is designed to help you notice what may be holding you back and begin moving towards what matters.
With approximately five hours of facilitated content across the retreat, you will have the opportunity to reflect, ask questions and explore practical tools within the supportive setting of a small group.
“Woven through each day is the psychological framework from my book Unstuck: structured, grounded work that gives shape to what you’re experiencing and helps you make sense of it in a way that lasts beyond the walk."
- Dr Em
“There is something so special about the Tasmanian wilderness, the scale, the stillness and the way it demands your presence, that creates conditions most of us never give ourselves."
“This walk is not a temporary escape. It is a chance to come back to what really matters and to carry something real and enduring home with you.”
- Dr Em
Clinical Psychologist of over 15 years.
Five days of walking, reflection and connection
Your experience begins on Hobart’s waterfront, where you will meet Emily Musgrove, your lead guide and the other guests over dinner at Peppina. Then, settle in for a night of curated comfort at The Tasman. The following morning, the group travels to the Three Capes Track to begin four days of guided walking.
As the landscape unfolds, so does the retreat’s psychological journey. Each day introduces a new theme, supported by guided sessions, walking prompts, mindfulness, journaling and evening reflection.
Limited to 12 guests, the small-group format allows space for personal reflection as well as thoughtful conversation and connection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this therapy? What kind of sessions will we do?
No. Our sessions are facilitated group experiences, not one-to-one therapy. Dr Em is a clinical psychologist and brings that training with her, but on retreat she's here as your facilitator and guide, not as your treating psychologist. You'll take part in group reflections, conversations and exercises drawn from her Unstuck framework — explored at your own pace, in a supportive group, rather than as personal clinical treatment. You're always in control of how much you share and how deeply you engage.
Will I get one-to-one therapy time with Dr Em?
This isn't an individual therapy retreat, so it isn't the setting for personal psychological treatment, and Emily's focus is on holding the group as a whole. If you're looking for one-to-one therapy, we'd gently encourage you to arrange that privately, and to keep it going alongside the retreat if you're already working with someone.
What if the week brings up strong emotions?
It might, and that's completely okay. Slowing down, walking in nature and reflecting can surface feelings you didn't see coming, and often that's where the most meaningful shifts happen. Whatever comes up is welcome. Emily will support the group through the harder moments, and you're never required to share more than you want to, or to take part in anything that doesn't feel right. You can take space, sit something out, or step back from any activity at any time.
Is what I share kept private?
We ask everyone to treat what's shared in the group as confidential, and to look after each other's privacy. We can't guarantee what others will carry outside our sessions, though, so we encourage you to share only at a level that feels safe and comfortable for you. There's never any pressure to disclose anything personal.
Is this right for me if I'm currently struggling with my mental health?
Please read this carefully. This retreat is a reflective and educational experience. It is not therapy, crisis support, or a substitute for mental health treatment. If you are currently experiencing significant mental health difficulties, an intensive multi-day retreat in a remote setting may not be the right environment for you right now. If that's where you find yourself, we'd warmly encourage you to focus on support with your own treating professional first, and to join us another time. If you're unsure whether the timing is right, please reach out before booking.

DISCLAIMER
A note on my role during this retreat
On this retreat, I'm here as your facilitator and guide, not as your treating psychologist.
I'm a registered clinical psychologist, and I'll be drawing on that training, the frameworks, the tools, the way I hold a group. But taking part does not create a therapist–client relationship between us. I will not be acting as your psychologist while we're together.
Practically, that means:
-
The reflections, exercises and conversations we share are educational and experiential. They're offered to the group and are general in nature — not personal clinical advice, assessment, diagnosis or treatment tailored to your individual circumstances.
-
I won't be keeping clinical notes, forming a treatment plan, or providing psychological therapy during our time together.
-
This retreat is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If you're currently seeing a psychologist, GP, psychiatrist or other health professional, please stay connected with them through this period. If you've been considering support, I'd warmly encourage you to seek it alongside, not instead of, this experience.
If at any point you need clinical support, my role is to help you access it, through your own practitioner, local services, or in an emergency, the appropriate emergency services.
On privacy: what's shared in the group stays in the group — I'll ask everyone to honour that. Please know, though, that I can't guarantee what others will hold, so share at a pace that feels right for you. My confidentiality obligations here differ from those in a formal clinical setting.
On the walking itself: our days on the trail, the guiding, logistics and your physical safety on the walk — are managed by the experienced team at the Tasmanian Walking Company. Please follow their guidance at all times.
By joining this retreat, you acknowledge that you've read and understood the above, that you're taking part in an educational and reflective experience rather than a clinical service, and that you remain responsible for your own ongoing health care.
